Hustle Sasa Redesign (Mobile & Web App)
Redesigning the experience of Africa's leading platform for creators and makers
Year :
2025
Industry :
Fintech, eCommerce, and Creator Economy
Client :
Hustle Sasa
Project Duration :
Feb 2022 - Feb 2023

Introduction :
Hustle Sasa is a pan-African creator-economy mobile app operating in Kenya, Rwanda and Ghana with 20,000+ creators on its platform. Now a NBA Africa Triple Double Accelerator, and DFS Lab Venture Capital backed startup with its focus now on Live Entertainment and Sports. Hustle Sasa has closed over $4.5million in transactions, over 400,000 tickets issued, over 1,800 live events powered and 10million+ page views as at 2024.
In 2022, I joined the tech team as Product & Visual Designer to drive the redesign of both the mobile app and the merchant web storefront across a 12-month initiative.

Problem :
The platform faced multiple challenges:
Onboarding for first-time users was overly simplified and lacked clarity, causing drop-off.
Merchant storefronts and checkout flows were fragmented, limiting engagement and conversions.
The rapid growth in user base and cross-country scale demanded more robust, intuitive modules for merchants (storefront, orders, wallet) and event organizers (check-in app).

How I did It :
Kicked off with a discovery phase involving the PM, CTO and myself to map goals and technical constraints, establishing a two-week sprint cadence over a 12 months period (40 sprints).
Led ideation, wireframing and hi-fi prototyping across key modules: merchant storefront, mobile app wallet/orders flow, a separate check-in event organizer app, and a unified marketplace.
Created a design system to drive UI consistency across platforms; redesigned major modules (Orders, Wallet, Check-in) with improved visual hierarchy, readability, and functionality.

Results :
Achieved an estimated 60% boost in conversion rate for the checkout process and a 65% reduction in cart abandonment following redesign.
The merchant web storefront saw an estimated 50% increase in engagement with over 1.5 million views.
Transactions processed via the mobile app rose by 40%, with thousands of merchant sign-ups added in the period.
